Suggestive therapeutics PDF Print E-mail

Hypnosis is a state of heightened suggestibility.

Instructions given to a person experiencing a hypnotic state bypass the normal waking conscious faculties and are received directly by the subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind has the ability to bring anything that it is instructed and accepts into life experience through the process of manifestation.

Suggestive therapeutics is the name given to the process of using states of hyper-suggestibility in a therapeutic context.

Over the course of the treatment, suggestions are passed to the subconscious in order to help the individual to move towards their therapeutic goal.

Treatment usually occurs over a course of sessions and is in combination with other therapeutic tools.

The applications of suggestive therapeutics are vast.  They include confidence boosting, habit and pain control and emotional empowerment.

Creative visualisation PDF Print E-mail

Creative visualisation is a form of guided meditation where the imagination is used to trigger subconscious processes.  This is also known as guided imagery.

Albert Einstein stated "your imagination is the preview of your life experience".

The emotions that we find ourselves experiencing within a particular situation are a direct result of the pattern of mental rehearsal in the mind.

A person who experiences anxiety while talking in public holds a mental image of themselves feeling anxious during the performance.  The image itself is responsible for the re-creation of the pattern of anxiety, no matter where it comes from.

A core aspect of this treatment is the isolation and deconstruction of negative mental pictures with positive pictures being implemented in their place.

New behaviours and emotions are created through an intricate form of mental rehearsal combined with the power of therapeutic suggestion.

Creative visualisation is a valuable life tool.  With a little practice, one can access any emotional state at will.  As the language of the subconscious itself is imagery, it provides us with a way that we can directly trigger subconscious processes for the purpose of healing.

Hypnotic imagery work has been shown to be effective for many situations including habit and phobia breaking and treatment of life challenging situations.

Regression therapy PDF Print E-mail

Certain phenomena become apart as an individual moves deeper into hypnosis.

One of the phenomena associated with medium to deep trance states is the ability to access parts of the memory that are not possible to access within the normal waking state.

The subconscious mind contains the contents of our entire life experience.  Under hypnosis, it is possible to access material that is usually repressed.

Emotional patterns are formed as a result of our emotional encoding and processing of past event, and how that encoding has reflected into a pattern of life experiences.  What we know as "memory" is the result of this unconscious processing.

The process of "memorising" is far from being a perfect one.  Each of the memories that we hold is actually an approximation of an event that happened in the past.

Regression therapy seeks to address problems at their root.  The client is led into hypnosis and a regression technique is used to direct the subconscious back to the moment that the emotional pattern (that is reflecting into a present day problem) was created.

Every action follows a feeling!  Regression therapy addresses the question of how to change an action through the action of changing a feeling!

When regression is successful, a "story" will surface into the mind of the client.  This story can be understood as the client's current emotional memory (or significant perception) of an event.

This memory will usually be from this life, but it is also possible that it can be from a life before this one.  The later is known as past life regression.

The regression process consists of making the unconscious conscious, releasing repressed emotions (abreaction) and, where indicated, changing the contents of the memory at the level of the subconscious.  It is often observed that conscious insight by itself leads to change.

The result of changing the contents of a perceptive memory under hypnosis leads to an immediate change in the emotional pattern experienced in the present.

When practised by a properly trained professional, regression therapy is safe, fast and deeply profound.  Many people have experienced wonderful changes as a result of it's practice.

Regression therapy is one of the more powerful change techniques available within the therapeutic world today.

Parts therapy PDF Print E-mail

Parts therapy is concerned with achieving resolution of problems through the process of internal negotiation.

Every person has many parts.  Parts are often experienced as internal voices and feelings.  Parts can be understood as aspects of personality created in response to the need to interact with the world in a certain way.

Typical aspects of personality in an adult male may be the adult, the judge, the office worker, the husband, the father and the son.

The presence of these parts enables the seamless switching between the different modes of behaviour that are necessary in the many roles of life that we find ourselves.

Most people have experienced the sensation of having parts in conflict with one another.

An example of this may be someone who is trying to stop smoking and is experiencing one part generating thoughts of stopping at the same time as another part imagining the pleasure that would be associated with lighting up a cigarette!

While we each have many parts, every part can be understood as being a member of a team.  A healthy psychological foundation is the result of each member being integrated, supporting one another and working together towards a unified goal.

Parts therapy theory states that each of our behaviours is created and controlled by one part of us. Behind every behaviour lies a positive intention, something that the behaviour in question is 'giving us'.

Parts therapy involves facilitating a process of communication between a client's parts.  This process leads to a conscious understanding of the motivations that lie behind behaviours and the unconscious conflicts that cause problems.

The trance state is used in combination with the parts therapy process in order to resolve conflicts and utilise positive motivation within a highly suggestive state in order to achieve personal change.

NLP PDF Print E-mail

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) was developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder during their PhD in Psychology at UCLA.

The research project that spawned NLP was based on one assumption - the fundamental error of modern psychology was that it was focused on studying people who were "broken".

While mainstream psychology was concerned with people with problems, Bandler and Grinder decided to study people who were "working".

They examined people from many different backgrounds, belief structures and careers with only one thing in common - they were at the top of their fields.

Bandler and Grinder were interested to find what these exceptional individuals had in common.  What enabled them to excel?

The distinguishing feature they found was the way in which these people internally encoded the world.

Individuals who excel believe, think and imagine themselves in the world in a certain way.

It was from this observation that the slogan of NLP was born - "the art and science of excellence".

NLP today consists of techniques and language patterns that enable rapid life changes through the process of altering internal representational structures.

Anybody can be taught to use their minds in a way consistent with excellence.

NLP techniques make use of brief trance states in order to effect change.  The techniques are often utilised in the context of an extended hypnosis session.

Knowledge from the world of NLP greatly contributes to the understanding of the mechanics through which our external world is created as a result of internal conditions reflecting through the process of manifestation.

It is a valuable science that has helped many people to makes changes, find empowered and feel in control of life.

EFT PDF Print E-mail

EFT (emotional freedom technique) is a change modality developed by Gary Craig.

The origins of EFT lie in Hatha Yoga and elements of it can be understood through hypnosis, NLP and accupuncture theory.

The EFT manual is freely available on the Internet and can be found here.  This site also has more information on EFT.

The EFT process involves tapping on energy points across the body while simultaneously reciting affirmations (suggestions).

This process is extremely useful for "tapping" out limiting beliefs and emotional patterns and replacing them with empowering ones.

While EFT is a form of therapy by itself, I have found that it is particularly useful when used alongside other change modalities in a structured therapy process.

A particularly useful application of EFT is as a homework assignment that the client can practise by themselves.

It is quick to learn and powerful in practice.

EMDR PDF Print E-mail

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic modality developed by Francine Shapiro for working with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

In cases of trauma, certain images and thoughts become stuck in our minds.

Every time these thoughts and images surface into the conscious mind, the result is that the associated (traumatic) emotional state is triggered.

People experiencing trauma find that many external stimuli will trigger the traumatic response.

People experiencing trauma are, in effect, being re-traumatised each time the blocked thoughts and images enter their minds.

This happens while dreaming as well as during daily life.

The EMDR technique allows for this material to be processed and released from the mind.

Furthermore, this technique addresses the beliefs, thoughts and emotions attached to the material itself.

Aside from trauma work, EMDR is an extremely effective tool for rapid belief change and clearing of emotional patterns.

As with many change modalities, it is highly effective when used alongside hypnosis as part of a structured therapy process.

EMDR is also very useful to reinforce belief change installed using suggestive therapeutics.

Past life regression PDF Print E-mail

Past life regression is a form of regression therapy in which the subject seems to access material from a life before this one.

The publication of Dr Brian Weiss' landmark book "Many Lives Many Masters" placed this work on the therapeutic map.

As a result, past life regression is the subject of much debate within the therapeutic community.

The main discussion is the question of whether the information obtained in past life regression is genuine or merely a Freudian metaphor created by the subconscious.

The roots of all the religions discuss the idea that we have lived other lifetimes.  Buddhism is most synominous with the concept of reincarnation.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet is recognised as the reincarnation of Chenrezig.

Past life regression can be directed within a hypnosis session.  It can also occur spontaneously within a hypnosis session.

Some people experience memories from past lives in their dreams.  There are also numerous case of children who have conscious memory of previous lives.

Being a spiritual as well as a therapeutical process, not everyone is able to successively access information from the past.

In the case of unsuccessful directed past life regression, the focus of the session will switch to another change modality from the field of Clinical Hypnotherapy.

The question of whether information obtained in past life regression is genuine or not is rooted in the individual belief system.

What is known is that past life regression is the most powerful change modality available in the hypnotherapy world today.

Past life regression has helped many people to overcome fears and limiting life patterns, to deepen in understanding of themselves, their relationships and their relationship to the world.
